Fig

Former Double Fine game studio COO Justin Bailey has launched Fig, a San Francisco-based curated game crowdfunding site that combines rewards-based contributions and equity investment.

Via crowdfunding campaigns on Fig, “game studios can combine these two powerful methods of raising funds while retaining creative control and offering fans new ways to get involved. By supporting a campaign, fans journey with each studio as they go from development to launch (and beyond), all while gaining real insights and transparency into the business of making games,” according to the Fig website.

The Fig advisory board includes games industry veterans Double Fine CEO (and NG 2015 speaker) Tim Schafer, inXile Entertainment CEO Brian Fargo and Obsidian Entertainment CEO Feargus Urquhart, all of whom have also pledged to launch campaigns for new games on Fig.

In an interview with VentureBeat, Bailey highlighted the advantage of crowdfunding with equity for backers: “We can take the community that’s getting involved, that helps make this possible, and they (can) enjoy some of the financial success that these titles enjoy.”
