PROJECT: The Little Mermaid AR-book

The Little Mermaid AR-book

Denmark’s Books & Magic has launched the company’s AR-book The Little Mermaid on Kickstarter, in a 200,000 DKK campaign to complete production of the project.

The developer says:

Besides the classic fairytale, Books & Magic’s innovative AR-book The Little Mermaid also includes a 3D-animated adventure explored with a smartphone.

“It’s a fantastic and interesting technique to present H.C. Andersen’s fairytales and we think it’s great his stories are being told and used in these new ways, says H.C. Andersen-expert Ejnar Stig Askgaard, who also manages the cultural heritage department at Odense City Museums, the city where H.C. Andersen grew up.

Books & Magic uses AR as a way to stimulate a desire to read in children. “As game developers and fathers, we want our kids to be able to find the magic in books,” says Books & Magic founder Mark Dalby Folkenberg. “This AR-technology might help make that a reality.”
